New series: Kami-sama no Memo-cho – First Impression

Thankfully, the transition to anime hasn't lost everything...just almost.

One other new series that has caught my attention, that is now into its 2nd episode, is Kami-sama no Memo-chō , or god’s memo (which I’ll be shortening as kami-memo).

You could say it’s the promotional art that caught my interest. I like the illustrations by Kishida Mel, and was interested to see how it would transition to anime. I missed Hanasaku Iroha and So-Ra-No-Wo-To, so this is the first series I’m catching with characters based on Mel’s work.

As expected, the designs didn’t transition too well, but at least the story looks set to be interesting. The hour-long 1st episode introduced Alice, the self-proclaimed NEET detective, and wastes no time in throwing you straight into the first case. While the male protagonist is pretty typical, the cases they deal with are not. Compensated dating and money laundering are items on the menu, so if you’re looking for something story-driven this season, you shouldn’t miss this.
